Dental Practice Sale By Owner vs. Broker

If we wanted to sell our practice, we would first try to do it ourselves.  Why pay someone a sizable fee if we can do it on or own?  This website is meant to help doctors find their buyers or future partners on their own.  While brokered purchases and sales certainly occur, they are not necessarily the norm.  Often sellers first list their practices in professional journals, at nearby schools and with the military.  Very often, sellers will initiate discussions with other doctors in the community who might want an office upgrade or to simply boosts the size of their existing practice.  It’s always worth discussing opportunities with your local supply representative, as they are usually attuned to what’s taking place in the community.

If you engage a practice broker, expect to be presented with a written contract.  Have it reviewed by your attorney before signing it.  We have found broker contracts to be printed with many terms that can be one-sided in favor of the broker.  When asked before signing, our experience has been that the broker will quickly consent to reasonable changes to get the listing.
